The present work commences with the first intellectual salvo hurled against the Catholic concept of Sacred Tradition just prior to the Second Vatican Council. A circle of European Catholic academicians had been embracing a radical alteration in the Church’s theological method. They proposed that Scripture alone would henceforth be the standard by which the truths of the Faith were evaluated. They essentially advocated that the four century conflict between Catholicism and Protestantism on this critical point of Christianity’s self-reference was to be settled in favor of those claiming the pedigree of Luther

Anyone familiar with Father Ripperger’s overall analysis of the roots of the current crisis in the Church is very much aware that he views immanentism as the primary viral agent assaulting (with increasing intensity) the health of the Mystical Body. Though he does not analyze the issue under discussion from this perspective, it is of more than passing interest to note that immanentist presuppositions were central to the thinking of those Catholic theologians Revelation.
